How It Began
A Passion for Our Culture, Identity, and Heritage
Hello, my name is Ángeles Gallegos, and I’m the founder and CEO of Sepanka.
I have always felt immense pride in my roots and culture. However, it wasn't until I traveled to Oaxaca and Chiapas to spend time with local artisans that I truly understood the significance of our ancestral traditions and techniques that live in each piece they create.
I met artists like Inés from San Bartolo Coyotepec and discovered that, despite their historical significance, many of these techniques are not well-known and are often undervalued. This stood in stark contrast to my own experiences. I witnessed the creation of the universe captured in clay, living history intricately woven into textiles, and remarkable ingenuity passed down through generations.
Inspired by this journey, I started sharing their work on social media to raise awareness for this type of artistry and generate new opportunities for the creators, bringing Sepanka to life.
